Common questions
About wall finishes
What is the difference between a putty and a filler?
A putty is a thin skim coat applied over a whole wall or ceiling to even out the surface before painting. A filler is for local defects — holes, chases and hairline cracks. Most projects use both, and we can quote them together once we know the wall area and the substrate.
Can these be used on exterior walls?
Some can and some cannot. Interior putties are not formulated for weather exposure, while the EIFS coats and render mortars are. Tell us whether the elevation is internal or external and we will point you at the right product.
Do you supply the mesh and base coat for an EIFS build-up?
Yes. The reinforcing mesh, base coat and finish coat are supplied as one system, and mixing brands across layers is where most EIFS failures start. Send us the insulation type and thickness and we will quote the matching build-up.
Always refer to the full Sika technical data sheet before application.
