Anchor bolt grouting
Fixing holding-down bolts and baseplates so load transfers cleanly into the foundation. Which method you need depends on whether the bolts were cast in with the concrete or are being installed into it afterwards.

Cast-in bolts: pocket grouting
Holding-down bolts set in pockets formed with the foundation, then grouted solid. A free-flowing non-shrink precision grout is used so the pocket fills completely without voids and without shrinking back off the bolt. SikaGrout-214 SA is a cementitious, free-flowing, non-shrink precision grout with high early and ultimate strength, used for machine foundations, base plates, and concrete anchors, cavities, gaps and recesses.

Post-installed anchors: chemical anchoring
Where the bolt goes into hardened concrete, the hole is drilled, cleaned thoroughly and injected with resin before the stud is set. Sika AnchorFix-3001 is a two-part, thixotropic epoxy anchoring material designed for anchoring threaded rods and reinforcement bars in both cracked and uncracked, dry or damp concrete. Hole cleaning is not optional — dust left in the hole is the usual reason a chemical anchor underperforms its stated load.

Baseplate bedding
Once the bolts are fixed, the plate is bedded so bearing is uniform across its whole area. SikaGrout-212 SA is a general-purpose non-shrink precision grout with high ultimate strength, used for machine foundations, base plates, bridge bearing pads and filling connections. Voided bedding concentrates load onto a few contact points, which is what cracks a plinth later.

Anchors inside water tanks
Where anchors are set inside a potable water structure, the resin has to suit that duty and the approval position must be confirmed rather than assumed. About grouting, anchoring & adhesives
Cementitious or epoxy grout for a machine base?
Cementitious grouts cover most structural baseplate and column applications and are the more economical choice at volume. Epoxy grouts are specified where the base carries dynamic or vibrating loads, or where chemical exposure rules out a cement-based product. Send us the load type and the gap dimensions.
Which anchoring resin do I need for rebar starter bars?
The correct resin depends on the bar diameter, the embedment depth, the base material and whether the connection is structural. The Sika AnchorFix range covers most cases, and the data sheets give load tables and hole preparation requirements. If your consultant has specified a product by name, we simply supply it.
Can you estimate how much grout a baseplate needs?
Yes. Give us the plate dimensions and the gap depth and we will calculate the volume and convert it to bag count using the yield stated on the product data sheet.
What grout is used for anchor bolts?
It depends on whether the bolt is cast in or post-installed. For cast-in holding-down bolts the pocket is filled with a free-flowing, non-shrink cementitious precision grout such as SikaGrout-214 SA, which fills the pocket without voids and without shrinking back off the bolt. For anchors installed into hardened concrete, a chemical anchoring resin is injected into a drilled and cleaned hole instead — Sika AnchorFix-3001 is a two-part epoxy designed for anchoring threaded rods and reinforcement bars in cracked or uncracked, dry or damp concrete.
